In this build, kids build their own robotic arm and learn all about hydraulic technology. Kids can guide the tongs to grab, pick up and drop as many objects as they want, without using electricity!
HOW IT WORKS: The hydraulic arm transfers force from the grip piston to the grab using water pressure. The system in which fluids are used to transfer power is called hydraulic. When we press the plunger of the handle the water pressure increases. This pressure pushes the piston of the grab part, causing it to move forward. The piston pushes the push rods and they in turn push the grab parts forward to close. Thus, by pressing the plunger of the handle, the pushing force is transferred to the side of the tin can.
