When mineralogy professor Lindenbrock discovered the parchment that fell through a seven hundred year old book, he set out to decipher it, convinced that it hid something important. His nephew, Axel, helped him with her incomprehensible message and they finally managed to find who had left it behind. It was a map by Arne Saknussem, a famous 16th century alchemist, that would lead them to the center of the Earth.
They prepared for their paradoxical journey and set off. They crossed seas and lands, entered bottomless wells and dark tunnels and encountered strange creatures, following the path of Saknushem. When they returned, they made all these strange things into a book that was translated into all languages. What a wonderful trip!
French novelist Jules Verne is considered the father of the science fiction novel, having predicted many of the technological achievements of modern science at a time when none of what he wrote existed. "Journey to the Center of the Earth" was first published in 1864 and is one of his best-known works.
