Erotokritos is a classic work that was first printed in 1713 in Venice. Its creator is Vicentzos Kornaros from Sitia in eastern Crete. It is estimated that he wrote it between the 15th and the 18th century, with the prevailing last years of Venetian rule in Crete.
Erotokritos, the son of the king's most loyal adviser, falls in love with the princess Aretousa. Such a marriage, however, can not take place, as she will have to marry the son of another king and not that of a servant. But the two young people are determined and, no matter how many years pass, no matter how many adventures they live, they do not forget each other. Until in the end everything happens in all the fairy tales: they live well and we live better.
